Overview

The 2,970-metre-high Schilthorn offers breathtaking, 360-degree panoramic views that encompass the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and over 200 other Alpine peaks. Visitors can reach the summit via a cable car journey from Stechelberg in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, completed in four stages, with departures every half-hour. The ascent offers a gradual buildup to the jaw-dropping vistas that await at the top. The Schilthorn gained worldwide fame as a filming location for the 1969 James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Its revolving restaurant, now named Piz Gloria, served as a memorable set and continues to delight visitors by rotating fully every 45 minutes, offering ever-changing views. Fans of 007 can indulge in Bond-themed attractions, including the interactive Bond World exhibit and the 007 Walk of Fame, tracing the steps of the iconic spy. Thrill-seekers can venture onto the Skyline Walk at the Birg middle station, where a glass-floored platform offers views straight down into the dizzying depths below. For even more adrenaline, the Thrill Walk hugs a rocky face, taking you 200 meters along a heart-racing path clinging to the mountain’s steep walls. In winter, the Schilthorn becomes a haven for snow enthusiasts, with 53 kilometers of ski runs, toboggan trails, and scenic winter hikes. Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy diverse slopes, freestyle terrain, and awe-inspiring views. The area is also a hub for telemark skiing, a traditional form of the sport where only the toe of the ski boot is attached to the binding. Every spring, telemark enthusiasts gather for the celebrated "Telemark Only" event, making the Schilthorn a true hotspot for this unique skiing style. For those new to telemarking, expert instructors are on hand to help visitors master this graceful and challenging technique.
